One of the Best Classic RPGs

This game is set apart by its mix of Fantasy and Science Fiction elements. It has lots of Dimensions in the story, and authentic feeling friendships especially between the two main characters. The cut scenes are epic and the sequence of events feels like playing an interactive movie. Square Enix needs to Remake this or turn it into an Anime, preferably both. This needs voice acting with good actors.

Decent port with only minor issues

Enjoyable way to play the game. Decent touch controls and it plays smoothly overall. Only issues I’ve noticed is that FMVs are choppy (poor frame pacing, not because of them being 15fps. The frame pacing is fine on the PC port), and transparent text boxes are just darker instead of being transparent. Playing on iPhone Air. Neither is a huge deal or detracts from the experience for me. Thanks Square Enix!

Controls could be better - sometimes it can be awkward getting the character to face the right way. The removal of the 'Select from List' option is annoying too, I have casted Curaga, Haste, Protect, Shell and Reflect on my enemy more time than I could count because the pointer could not be properly seen. Other than that, amazing port of my favorite FF game. Going through it again after so many years was a total blast.

The Remaster is great! Visual, Audio, Texture, Frame rate, and Performance. It's not only a drive down memory lane but it is 2026 handheld and ready to pick up and go. Mini games I noticed reformatted for the smartphones but still a challenge, Enemies and boss fights are still compelling, the soundtrack if I'm not mistaken had a few remixes of original songs from the ps1 version, I give this FF8 10/10

Les touches sont horribles et sont beaucoup trop petites et peu maniables, ce qui fait que se diriger proprement, utiliser le turbo des G-Forces ou la limit break de Zell relève du parcours du combattant... D'où mon étoile en moins mais qui n'enlève que peu à l'expérience de jeu de cette petite merveille d'époque qui a très bien vieilli grâce au Remaster. Privilégiez plutôt une version PC ou console jouable à la manette, mais toujours un plaisir de pouvoir y jouer partout sur son mobile !

It's a good enough remastered version of the original, however...help me understand why this was not remastered in at least 16:9 format? Which phone or even tablet has a 4:3 aspect ratio? What are we playing on Blackberries? As if the 4:3 aspect ratio was not enough, you're putting extra black bars on the top and bottom of the screen? Are we supposed to use a magnifying glass to play this? I'm disappointed, so I'm not sure how much this will become tiresome and spoil my enjoyment of the game.

Amazing game, there is slowdown in Galbadia Missile Base, disc 2, in the room where with steam coming out of the floor and two guards you have to talk to a couple times (progression area but only a few minutes are spent here) haven't found any other slowdown or crashes and WOW they did exceptional work with respriting every npc and enemy, such good work. Also it is in 4:3 so be aware of that, there is not a way to full screen it as far as I know.

This version is great for the most part. The graphics are better, I can play on the go, the 3 times speed is helpful, no random encounters is helpful when I just want to speed through, as well as the boost. Sometimes I have to redo a certain chase scene from Dollet as it will glitch and keep starting battles endlessly unless I reset, or I have to reset to get past a certain Laguna, Ward, and Kairos scene, but otherwise, it's been great.

Deep sea research

I’m playing on an i phone and don’t seem to be able to access the lower levels of the deep sea research center to fight ultimate weapon and get Eden gf. The save point didn’t seem to spawn after defeating Bahamian either. Is this a bug or what? The pillar you climb down never appears

Simply will not launch

I have multiple devices - and the game will not launch on any of them. Tried contacting support, but they are worse than useless. They ask a question….i answer. They ask another….i answer. I’m glad to see that the app received a relatively quick update after it stopped working with iOS 17.2 and above. It now works great. If you have a controller, this is (to me) a five-star game, but the touch controls are just a bit awkward to me. FFVIII is a great game - one of the best in the series in my opinion, and being available for mobile is amazing to me. Thanks for the update, so I can keep playing.

Game doesn’t bootup

I’ve been having issues getting this game to work on my iphone xr. Once i get past the main menu, the game doesn’t start. It’s just stuck in a black screen. Wish the developers would send out an update to fix this problem.

You can only play it offline…

To everyone having a problem playing this title — the issue appears to be with the cloud save server. The game tries to connect to it and then fails. And it doesn’t take failing to connect to the server gracefully. You do not need to enable airplane mode to play this game, unlike what other reviewers have said. Instead you just need to disable Internet access. So you can still use bluetooth controllers if you want! More than likely it is a server certificate or network protocol issue that cropped up with the 17.2 update. I am certain that all Sony needs to do is push a small update for the app, or possibly even just upgrade the server.

Please please update this app or fix the bugs. Can’t get past the start title screen. As soon as it opens I get a black screen. Love the game it just needs a little improvement

I have played quite a bit of the ff games and I figured I’d buy this one I love it except for the frame rate . That’s my only issue with it, if you’re offline it loads perfectly and runs perfectly but the moment you get back online it automatically runs slow and loads everything slower. I havent seen this game in decades, not sure if Ive ever even finished it. The mechanics made for iphone work flawlessly. The story for this game is memorable, and actually makes you want to play through. The card game is fun in its own. The efforts into the art direction and story from this game make it unique in its franchise. And as always the music is perfect. Update: starting 12/2023 this game isnt working. Itll hang and stutter. It seems when you go back to ios home screen and reopen the running app itll work until game center signs in again. Then itll start skipping frames and sound will cut out.
